Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text follows the style guidelines and bibliographic requirements described in Author Guidelines, on the About the Journal page.

Author Guidelines

The journal Contemporary Phenomenological Psychopathology requires originality and the unpublished nature of articles. Articles submitted to the journal must be original and cannot be under evaluation by another journal.

The journal publishes the following types of manuscripts:

  • opathological, philosophical reflection, essays, or the dissemination of original and unpublished ideas. Empirical works of a diagnostic or clinical nature are also accepted.

  • Review Article: Consists of a critical and systematic evaluation of the literature, material published on a specific subject, and updates on the topic.

  • Translation of articles published in other languages: The translation of articles related to the scope of the journal is permitted, provided they are open access or have express authorization from the journal in which the original article was published.

  • Brief Communication: Short communication of original research, intended to present preliminary results.

  • Case Report: Presents cases or experiences with singular characteristics of interest to professional practice, describing their aspects, history, conduct, among others.

  • Book Review: Critical analysis of a book published in print or online.

  • Letter to the Editor: Critiques of published material in a constructive, objective, and educational manner, or discussions of specific current topics.

  • Conference Paper: Groups information presented and discussed at scientific events in the field.

MANUSCRIPT STRUCTURE

Authors are free to define the titles of the manuscript sections, provided they present the following items: introduction to the theme, development, and conclusion.

FORMATTING AND TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

  • Format: The text must be formatted in Microsoft Word, on ISO A4 paper (212x297mm).

  • Font: Times New Roman, size 12.

  • Text Alignment: Justified.

  • Line Spacing: 1.5.

  • Margins: 2.5 cm on each side.

  • Indentation and Spacing: Zero (except for paragraph tabs).

  • Paragraph Tab: 1.25 cm.

  • Titles: Bold, unnumbered. Must be concise and avoid the use of acronyms.

  • Subtitles: Indicate hierarchy, where applicable, using italics. Do not number.

  • Abstracts: Maximum 300 words.

  • Keywords (Descriptors): Minimum 3, maximum 5.

  • In-text Citations: Must be nominal, presenting the name of the author(s) and the respective year of publication, in accordance with the recommendations of the American Psychological Association (APA) (6th edition, 2012).

  • References: Must be presented in accordance with the standards of the American Psychological Association (APA) (6th edition, 2012). To verify the adaptation of the standards, click here.

  • Figures and Tables: Must be presented in the body of the text, in Times New Roman, size 10. Include a concise title and legend when necessary. They must be created in Microsoft Word or sent in an editable format.

  • Appendices: Those necessary for the understanding of the text. They may be presented as lists, protocols, forms, tests, etc. They must be numbered sequentially, according to the order of appearance in the text.

  • Abbreviations and Acronyms: Must be preceded by the full name when cited for the first time in the text.

  • Footnotes: If present, must be identified with an asterisk (*).

  • Funding: Cite the funding institutions that provided aid and/or financing for the execution of the research, stating grant numbers where applicable.

  • Acknowledgments: Include recognition of people or institutions that effectively collaborated on the execution of the research.

MANUSCRIPT PRESENTATION

The presentation of the manuscript must follow this format:

1. Identified Title Page, containing:

  • Title of the work in Portuguese (or the original language of the study) and in English.

  • Full name of each author with their respective academic/professional affiliation and email.

  • We also request, on the title page, the authorship criteria and the registration of each author's contribution to the article.

  • This file must indicate if the author wishes to open the peer review process. If there is no such indication, the editors will consider that the article is to be evaluated via a double-blind process.

2. Blind Title Page (Unidentified), containing:

  • Title in Portuguese (or the original language of the study) and in English.

  • Abstract in Portuguese with a maximum of 150 words, with keywords (maximum 5).

  • Abstract in English, of the same length as the Portuguese abstract, with the respective keywords.

  • The text properly speaking, followed by the references of the works cited.

SUPPLEMENTARY DOCUMENTS

Along with the manuscript, a permission letter addressed to the editors must be sent, signed by all authors. This letter must inform of the article submission, authorize the editorial process, guarantee that the material is original and unpublished, and state that it is not being evaluated by another journal. Also, inform if there is any conflict of interest.

Authors must declare any use of generative or assisted Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in manuscript preparation at the time of submission. This includes, for example, the use of language models, automatic text generation, summarization or translation tools, or other AI-based technologies that have contributed to the content, writing, or organization of the text.
In this regard, authors are requested to include an explicit declaration of AI use in a section titled, for example, “AI Use Declaration” or “AI Use Declaration” when submitting their manuscript.

The declaration should specify:

  1. The name(s) of the AI ​​tool(s) used;
  2. How and for what purpose the AI ​​was used (e.g., language review, draft generation, translation, etc.);
  3. A statement that the authors reviewed, edited, and are responsible for all manuscript content, including AI-assisted parts.

TIME FOR PUBLICATION

On average, submitted articles are published 12 weeks after the submission date.

Original Article

Intended for psychological, psychopathological, philosophical, or essayistic reflection, or for the dissemination of original and unpublished ideas. Empirical works of a diagnostic or clinical nature are also accepted.

Review Article

It consists of a critical and systematic evaluation of the literature, published material on a specific subject, and updates on the topic.

Brief communication

Short original research communication, intended to present preliminary results.

Case report

It presents cases or experiences with unique characteristics of interest to professional practice, describing their aspects, history, conduct, among others.

Critical book review

Critical analysis of a book published in print or online.

Letter to the editor

Criticism of published material, in a constructive, objective and educational manner, or discussions of specific current affairs topics.

Communication presented at an event.

It compiles information presented and discussed at scientific events in the field.
